Volunteer and Paid Position for High School Students

Leaders in Training (LIT)

High school students may apply to become a Leader in Training (LIT) for our children’s summer programs. LITs work closely with the Budding Farmers, Young Farmers, Growing Farmers and Working Farmers programs. LIT positions are available for all 11 weeks of the summer program schedule. We ask for a minimum commitment of two weeks. There is no enrollment fee for this program. Hours earned as a LIT can be applied towards many schools’ Community Service requirements. High school students who would like to be considered as LITs should send in a letter of interest by April 15 along with a registration form to Director Lynda Simkins.

When: June 14 - August 27, weekly sessions run Monday through Thursday
Time: 9 am - 4 pm or 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, depending on which program the LIT assists

Teen Work Crew (TWC)

For the past several summers, Teen Work Crew members have been essential members of the Farm’s summer staff. Their work has greatly improved the Farm’s appearance and structural health. They have constructed a beautiful nature center, a working adobe oven and the newly completed market stand. For the last three years, TWC members have learned traditional craftsmanship and woodworking techniques under the watchful eye of Teen Work Crew Manager and mentor Mark Oteri. Teen Work Crew members experience a strong sense of giving to their community as they work as a team.

To apply for the Teen Work Crew, send a letter of interest to Director Lynda Simkins. In your letter, please let us know about you, what interests you in the position, where you come from, where are you headed, what your expectations are and what work experiences you would bring to the position (farming, yard work, work around the house, babysitting, other jobs). Please also fill out a registration form  and send it along. Applicants will be invited to the Farm to participate in a brief interview and to work alongside the Assistant Farm Director after April 15. By May 1, the new Teen Work Crew will be accepted.
